South African Legion POPPY Concert 2017
The South African Legion will be hosting an Afternoon of Remembrance on the 11th November 2017, at Jeppe Boys High School. A variety of pipes and drums as well as choirs will be featured through the afternoon. The MOTHS will perform the Shadow March at sunset to close off this afternoon in memorial.

Tickets are R90 for adults, R60 for veterans, pensioners and children. They can be purchased online from the South African Legion shop here, as well as from the National Head Office and Jeppe Boys High School.

With over 40 years of musical performances, the Coro Giuseppe Verdi wants to impart the love of music to their audience.
Italy Ambassador, Vincenzo Schioppa, said music for the Italians is something they share amongst themselves and with the world. “We think our culture is really something, we can share with other people and through music we do that.”

JMPD Choir
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department Choir was established in 2003 as a support structure to render musical items at memorial services of the department and the City of Johannesburg.
The choir has since then been successfully involved in various musical projects and initiatives i.e. Old Mutual National Choir Festival, AKTV, GACMA, SACMA and other community-based projects.
Jeppe Boys High School Choir
The Jeppe Choir has made a return in 2017. Although they are still a young choir, they have come a long way since their first rehearsal at the start of the year.
In a school as diverse as Jeppe High School for Boys the choir gives students from all walks of life a chance to have their voices heard. They embody a truly South African spirit and have the tendency to turn black and white into gold.
Michael McGovern
Michael has been in the entertainment business for many, many years. Doing TV, radio, film, musicals, cabaret at the London Savoy Hotel and was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company. He has also lectured at Damelin for many years on all aspects of the business.
Samantha Hough
Sam made her debut on stage at age 7 and loved it ever since. She has an NQF4 in music and vocals. She sings all over South Africa at different events and celebrations. She looks forward to singing for you.

SA Irish Pipes and Drums
The band plays a significant role as a military and ceremonial instrument and adds its distinctive look and sound to special commemorations of events like The Battle of Sidi Rezeigh and Armistice Day.

The SA Irish Pipes and Drums is also a formidable competition band, the band won most of the pipe band competitions in which it participated in 2009. The band has been awarded the South African Champions and Champion of Champions trophies in it's grade for this year.
Jeppe Boys High School Pipes and Drums
The Jeppe Pipe Band is the oldest school pipe band in South Africa. The band won the South African Pipe Band Championships in 2014 and there has since seen a huge increase in membership, resulting in the band having to form two competition bands.
Over the last few years, the band has become
well-renowned in South Africa, as well as internationally.
Welsh Male Voice Choir of South Africa
The Choir, whose Welsh name means ‘Choir of the Sons of Wales, South Africa’, was formed in January 1978 by a group of expatriates. Its mission is to promote singing in the manner of Welsh choirs.
A non-profit-making organisation made up of amateur choristers, our reward is to give enjoyment to others – as well as ourselves – through the medium of song.
German Male Voice Choir of South Africa
The German Male-voice choir was founded in 1896 in Johannesburg under the Name of “Liederkranz”.

This choir has offered German “Gemütlichkeit” to newly-arrived immigrants and the local German community for many years.
Paper POPPIES will be available at the concert in exchange for a donation, as well as these beautiful POPPY lapel pins, available in Red (for servicemen and women that have served) and Purple (for animals that have served).
